Thomas and William Montgomery married sisters Nancy and Mary Johnston respectively. They were the daughters of William Johnston, another Nelson County KY pioneer who died there in 1813. Nancy Johnston Montgomery's death date is unknown, but she probably died before 1820. Thomas Montgomery died 30 August 1834. They are probably buried in the Montgomery Cemetery where a large number of their descendants are buried.
This Thomas Montgomery is often confused with a different Thomas Montgomery who lived nearby in Washington County, Kentucky and was married to Frances Pollard. The two men lived about eight miles apart. They were born about the same time, and died within months of each other. They also had several children with the same names. These similarities appear to have caused the Federal Government to mistakenly grant Frances Pollard a Revolutionary War widow's pension and bounty land leading to even more confusion.
The children of Thomas Montgomery and Nancy were:
William C. Montgomery 20 Nov 1786 - 10 Oct 1849
Rebecca A. Montgomery c1787 - 21 May 1857
James Montgomery c1788 - 1813
John P. Montgomery 10 Feb 1790 - 15 Jul 1871
Mary (Polly) Montgomery c1791 - 29 Sep 1878
Jane (Jinet) Montgomery 15 Jan 1794 - 31 Aug 1856
Nancy Montgomery 1796 - 24 Nov 1870
Elizabeth Montgomery c1799 - 11 Sep 1875
Lettice Montgomery 06 Oct 1801 - 16 Oct 1881
Ann Montgomery 01 Jan 1804 - 31 Oct 1881
Thomas Montgomery 06 Jul 1808 - 19 Nov 1839
