Macy is the son of Benjamin Cherry & Allie Duer. He was born in Franklin County, Kentucky in July 1889. In June 1922 he married Elizabeth Schmitt in Detroit.

In May 1917 he is in Detroit working as an assembler in a Studebaker factory. He served in the US Army from 1918 to 1919. He was in the 159th Depot Brigade in Michigan. In 1940 he is a real estate salesman living in Detroit and lists that he has a 12th grade education. Mace dies in Royal Oak in January 1959. He is buried next to his wife in Oakview Cemetery in Royal Oak.
