Marriage and death records say he is the son of Henry Walbridge & Almira Hill. His 29 Jul 1914 obituary in the Caledonian Record says his mother died while he was an infant. He was sent to live with his maternal Grand-uncle Chauncy Hill in Concord, VT. (On John's marriage certificate, it states he was born in Waterford, VT, however birth record has not been located there.) He was in Concord, VT in 1850 & 1860 census living with Lucy & Chauncy Hill. In 1870 census he was attending Attorney College in Galesburg, IL (1870 BS candidate as law student at Lombard College, mailing address West Concord, VT). He was a farmer in Concord, VT in 1880, 1900, 1910 census. His Guilford death record states his birthplace as Plainfield, VT
He was a successful breeder of sheep, dairy stock and colts. On 19 Apr 1872 at Concord VT he married Cynthia H Chase, daughter of Elmore and Cynthia (Hill) Chase. They had three children, Henry, Blanche and Winifred. From book, "Men of Vermont, an Illustrated Biographical History of Vermonters...."
