Bonnie Rettmer was born on March 5, 1929 to Henry and Alta Rettmer on the family farm in Hand County, South Dakota. Bonnie went to country school and then attended high school in Redfield, SD, graduating in 1947. She attended college at South Dakota State University, graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1951. While in college, she met her husband James Andersen and they married in Redfield, SD on June 16, 1951. To this union, three children were born; Brian, Scott, and Robyn. They lived in the Aberdeen area for many years before moving to Sioux Falls in August of 1973.
Bonnie and James had many good years and kept busy with different activities, such as bowling on a couple’s league and many camping trips to surrounding area archery tournaments where she won the Women’s State Championship in archery. She had a huge passion for animals, especially horses, dogs and cats. Bonnie rode and trained trick ponies for several years. Bonnie was involved in her church, taking part in many activities, such as joining sewing and knitting groups, Bible studies, coffee groups, the Trunk or Treat function, The United Methodist Women group, Daughters of Nile, Eastern Star, Shrine Auxiliary and many other social groups.
Bonnie loved to sew, garden and volunteer her time at the Washington Pavilion and the Old Court House Museum. She especially loved to spend time with her children, grandchildren, and pets.
Grateful for sharing her life are her children; sons, Brian Andersen of Sioux Falls, Scott Andersen of Sioux Falls; daughter, Robyn Serck of Sioux Falls, SD; three grandchildren, Kristin, Steffen, and Ethan Serck, all of Sioux Falls and many other additional family and friends.
Bonnie was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Alta Rettmer; her husband, James Andersen; and a sister, Marlene Engelbrecht.
The family request that memorial donations be made to The Heart Foundation or The Kidney Foundation.
