AYRES, A.J. “Gene”, age 90 of Brookville, passed away Friday, October 20, 2017 at Brookhaven Nursing Center. He was born February 21, 1927 in Owen County, KY, son of the late Arville J. & Edna Mae (Johnson) Ayres. Gene was an active member of the First Baptist Church in Vandalia since 1984 and served many years as a Deacon with Fairview Baptist Church. He also spent 15 years as a courier with CompuNet, after spending the majority of his working life as a farmer. Preceded in death by one daughter, Donna (Ayres) Link, one son, Timothy Ayres; and 2 sisters, Dorothy & Eris, Gene is survived by his wife of over 60 years, Mary A. (Wainscott) Ayres; daughters, Ann Wagers (Leonard) and Cindy Hoskins (Gary); son, John Ayres (Dana); sisters, Velma Clifton (Gilford) and Linda Karsner; grandchildren, Rance, Jesse, Daniel, Luke, Sam, Garrett, Kendal, Jake, Kyli, Joshua, Julianna, Gabriel, Caleb and Calista; great-grandchildren, Ethan, Justin & Silas, along with a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 4:00 pm, Monday, October 23 at the First Baptist Church, 140 Elva Ct., Vandalia with John Seagraves and John Ayres officiating. The family will receive friends at the church on Monday from 3:00 pm until time of service. Interment will be held at 1:00 pm, Tuesday, October 24 at Owenton Cemetery, Owen Co., KY. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church Mission Fund in Gene’s memory.
