Robert "Ray" Armstrong

A private family service for Robert "Ray" Armstrong, 74, of Coke and formerly of Emory, was held December 24, 2009, at Liberty Cemetery in Hawkins.

Mr. Armstrong died December 13, 2009, at Trinity Mission Nursing Home in Winnsboro following a long illness. He was born August 12, 1935, in Saltillo. He married Jett Armstrong in 1978 and they lived in Emory until 2004 when they moved to Coke.

He dedicated the latter part of his life to taking care of Jett until she passed away in 2005.

Mr. Armstrong was a commercial construction superintendent for many years. He enjoyed riding his Harley Davidson, smoking his pipe, leather tooling, and playing poker on the computer. He passed away only 15 minutes after Jett's birthday which would have been on December 12.

Survivors include daughters, Kristi Armstrong Ryan and husband Jeff of Lerna, Illinois, Kim White and husband Hubert of Edgewood; Kelly Roberts and husband Jeff of Coke, Tina Armstrong of Irving; son, Alton Armstrong of Allen; grandchildren, Kourtney Haas of Findlay, Illinois, Levi Laningham of Emory, Cee Jay Roberts of Coke, Joey Haas of Findlay, Illinois, Kinley Roberts of Coke; great-grandson, Cameron Brown of Findlay, Illinois; and Crystal, Jett and Ray's canine companion of many years.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 27 years, Jett Armstrong.

Papa Ray was cremated and his ashes spread with his wife, Jett per his request.
