Visitation for Chesterton High School student Amera Abuhakemeh is Thursday, October 26 and funeral services will be Friday, October 27.

Amera was born May 7, 2000 in Hammond to Muhammad Abu hakmeh and Entesar Sobuh, both survive. Also surviving are her step-father, Armando Gomez and stepmother, Chasity Abu hakmeh; high school sweetheart, Robert Rosenau; siblings, Amyah Gomez, Geovanna Gomez, Icess Abu hakmeh; step brother, Zachary Barbosa; maternal grandparents, Sonia and David Sobuh; many Aunts and Uncles, relatives, and friends.

Preceding her in death are paternal grandparents, Anise and Aida Abu hakmeh.

Amera was a Chesterton Trojan guard member, and an accomplished trumpeter.

She was on the National Honor society as well as the NSHSS. She was chosen to travel to Costa Rica through Don Quijote Scholarship.

She was looking forward to graduating from Chesterton High School in June and attending Indiana University in Bloomington in the Fall. Her dreams were to attend John Hopkins Medical School and to help others. As a young adult, she had a clear prospective on life, and was driven.

Her loving and caring nature showed in everything she did, with her family, friends, and others. She enjoyed participating at various fund raising 5 and 10Ks. Amera's magnetic personality made her presence known.

She was always smiling the biggest, and laughing the loudest.

Amera was a guiding light, an inspiration to all, and will be greatly missed by all who loved her.

Visitation will be Thursday, October 26, 2017 from 3-8 pm at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home (8178 Cline Ave.; Crown Point, IN 46307). Funeral services will be held Friday, October 27, at 12 noon.

Trojan Guard to play:

The family of Amera Abuhakmeh will receive friends from 3 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 26, at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens, 8178 Cline Ave. in Schererville, Chesterton High School Principal Jeff Van Drie told the Chesterton Tribune after deadline today.

At the family's request, the Trojan Guard, with which Amera played trumpet, will be performing its half-time show music at the visitation to honor its fallen member.
The Trojan Guard will leave CHS at 3 p.m. and will likely perform around 5:30 p.m., Van Drie said.

Burial is scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 27, at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens.

Amera, 17, a senior at CHS, died on Tuesday in a crash on U.S. Highway 20 in Portage on her way to school. Her 12-year-old sister, a Chesterton Middle School student, was critically injured in the accident.
