The Rev. Dr. David Traynham, passed away May 27, 2014. David was born in Halifax, Virginia, and was preceded in death by his parents, The Hon. Howard P. and Mildred Webb Anderson. He is survived by his beloved wife of 32 years, Mary Franko Anderson; his three children, Matthew Traynham Anderson, Meaghan "Maggie" Brooks Anderson and Alexa Palmer Anderson; his two brothers, Howard P. Anderson Jr. and John W. Anderson and his wife, Diane; and the Franko family clan which is too numerous to list by name.

He was educated at Washington and Lee University, B.A. 1976; Vanderbilt Divinity School, M. Div. 1980; Union Theological Seminary, Ph.D 1991; Anglican Studies at Cambridge University, England and Virginia Theological Seminary. David was ordained a United Methodist minister in 1980, and served Burkeville Charge and Reveille United Methodist Church in Richmond.

He was ordained in the Episcopal church in 2000 and served the Diocese of Virginia as chief of commission on Ministry, chair of Committee on Priesthood, and a member of UTO Grants Committee. David served as Chaplain at St. Christopher's School, 1986-2003, where he was Chair of the Religion Department, Upper School history teacher, Director of Community Service, 12th grade advisor, and lacrosse coach (too prideful of coaching five Prep League championship and two State Championship teams). He began serving St. Stephen's Episcopal Church in August of 2003 as Assistant Rector and then as Vicar, where he had an overwhelming sense of joy in serving the parishioners and staff. David began serving at St. James the Less Episcopal Church in December 2011, where they lovingly welcomed him as their rector for the last two and a half years of his ministry. He had tremendous joy in serving on the Board of Peter Paul Development Center and being chairman during the construction of its new facility. David was also honored to join in the Founder's Board of the Anna Julia Cooper Episcopal School. He had an amazing sense of joy serving the boys, faculty, and staff of St. Christopher's (especially the class of 1991), and in getting the St. Christopher's boys out into all of Richmond, from towing them through neighborhoods to placing nearly 100 boys each year as tutors in city schools, to assisting James River Park services, all with the notion that leaders are servants first and foremost.

David's family will receive friends on Thursday, May 29, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at Bliley's - Central location, 3801 Augusta Ave. A memorial service will be held 1 p.m. Friday, May 30, at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, 6000 Grove Avenue, with a reception to follow in the Parish Hall. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the David T. Anderson Endowment for Youth Education, care of the Peter Paul Development Center, 1708 N. 22nd Street, Richmond, Va. 23223.
