Lavina Jane Cluff was a daughter of David W. and Sarah Elda (Mattice) Cluff. She was married first to Martin Hans Herlick, with whom she had two sons. She and her husband and sons had relocated to California from Arizona by 1930. By 1940 she and her husband had divorced and she had remarried to Jesse Earl Chaney. She was survived by her husband, two sons, two stepsons, a sister, nine grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
