Emily J. Giles-Kaufer went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, March 13, 2007. Emily was just eight days short of her 99th birthday.

She was a graduate of Washington state College in the School of Pharmacy.

She was a true pioneer in her field since she was the first licensed female Pharmacist in the state of Washington. She did this with perserverance since at the time she was the mother of three small children as she was going to class. She weathered the jibes of her all male classmates and graduated with two honorary societies (Rho Chi Society and Lambda Kappa Sigma) and a scholarship plaque on the campus (she was salutorian at her high school in snohomish Washington). During her career she practiced pharmacy in Washington, Ohio, Maryland and Washington,D.C.

Emily was a member of the Suntree United Methodist Church and attended the Empty Nest Sunday School Class.

She is survived by her son, Donald Giles; her daughter, Marcia Bourland; a step-son, George Kaufer and a sister Alene Plumley.

She was married to her first husband, Henry Giles, for 47 years until his death in 1975. She then re-married Fred Kaufer until his death in 2002. He was 101 years of age.

Her grandchildren are Steven Giles, Donna Giles, Jennifer King, Dean Bourland, David Giles and Martha Jane Giles.

Funeral services will be held at Suntree United Methodist Church on Monday, March 19th, at 11 a.m. Internment will follow immediately at the Florida Memorial Gardens, who will also be in charge of arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, it would be appreciated if donations were made to the Suntree United Methodist Church or to Wuesthoff Hospice.
