Jean R. Acornley, 87, of Bloomsburg died on Thursday, Oct. 26, 2017, after a short illness. She was a resident of Bloomsburg for more than 60 years.
Jean was born on Tuesday, July 1, 1930, in Roaring Creek Township, a daughter of the late Melvin and Ethel (Strausser) Rarig. Throughout her younger years, Jean attended the Locust Township schools, and later graduated from the Locust Township High School in 1948. On Aug. 7, 1948, Jean married her loving husband, Doyle, formerly of Orange Township, who preceded her in death on Oct. 11, 2013. For many years, Jean was employed by Milco Industries as a sewing machine operator until her retirement in 1995. Jean was a member of the Trinity Reformed United Church of Christ, where she was a member of the Women in Mission. Jean enjoyed spending her time as a church volunteer, was an avid reader and enjoyed crossword puzzles.
In addition to her parents and husband, Jean was also preceded by two sisters: Irene Kashner and Lillian Rarig; and two brothers: Harold Rarig and Robert Rarig.
Survivors include her daughter, Mona L. (Scott) Bartholomew, of Millville; granddaughters: Taryn (Aaron) Evans of Scottsville, Va., Corey (William) Schaller of Millville; grandson, Brett Bartholomew, (companion Porsche Butters) of Millville; three great-granddaughters: Farah Evans, Audrey and Molly Schaller; two great-grandsons: Flynn Evans and Gannon Bartholomew; and one brother, Neil (Geraldine) Rarig.
A time of visitation for family and friends will be held on Friday, Nov. 3, 2017, from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Trinity Reformed United Church of Christ, 260 E. Seventh St., Bloomsburg.
Funeral services will begin on Friday, Nov. 3, 2017, at 11 a.m. at the Trinity Reformed United Church of Christ with Pastor Steven C. Hummel officiating. Private committal services will be held at the convenience of the family.
