Leonard was the eldest of five children born to Elmer Louis Phillips and Virgie German.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Harold David.

He had a fond affection for Prescott, the town where he was born, revisiting from time to time. He had a painting commissioned of the schoolhouse he attended and returned in 1993 to make a speech.

Leonard had an entrepreneurial spirit, shown through his being self employed, his businesses, and his investments. He enjoyed bee keeping and harvesting the honey.

MR. [LEONARD L. PHILLIPS], Cactus Lane, Mount Dora, died Monday, Aug. 23, from myelodysplastic syndrome. He was a self-employed businessman and teacher. Born in Prescott, Kan., he moved to Central Florida in 1955. He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Mount Dora. He was a member of the Mount Dora Rotary Club, Masons, Scottish Rite and Lake County Republican Party. He was a past commander of the Tavares American Legion and founder and past president of the Lake County Coin Club. He was an Air Force veteran of World War II. Survivors: wife, Georgia M.; son, daughters; brother and sister; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren. Allen J. Harden Funeral Home, Mount Dora.
