Ja Dee B. Priest "Dee" (Treichel)

Ja Dee was born on May 13, 1930 in Carrington N.D., the daughter of William and Ellen Treichel. She lived on a farm and went to a one room school house for early grades. In 1937 she rode a train with her mother, sister and brother to Coeur d' Alene Idaho. The train ride was scary to her. She graduated from high school in 1948 and married Ralph Shellabarger right after graduation. They had three children Howard, Harlan and Steena.

In 1983 she married the love of her life, Steve Priest. They traveled to different places and took several cruises including seeing the Panama Canal and Alaska. She worked several places in Spokane, starting at JJ Newberry on Riverside, then Shriner's Hospital on Summit Blvd. then the State Department of Transportation where she did several jobs including, being a toll taker on the Maple Street Bridge and rest area attendant.

Ja Dee was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Shirley Braswell, brother Duane Treichel, both husbands and son Howard (Tiny) Shellabarger.

She is survived by brother Del, his wife Lenore, brother Dean, son Harlan Shellabarger,(Kathy), daughter Steena Naccarato (Scott), grandchildren Max, Sam, Adelle, Ian, Elyse, Stephanie, Kimberlee and special nieces Mary Jane Voorhies, Debbie Longshore and Deanna Yamane.

Ja Dee was diagnosed with lung cancer in February 2016. It was discovered in July of this year that it had metastasized to her brain. In her true stubborn Swedish heritage she fought with vigor, grace and humor, humor generally at the expense of her doctors. Ja Dee passed away peacefully on October 21, 2017 at Hospice House.

In lieu of flowers please make memorial contributions to her favorite charities; Union Gospel Mission, Meals on Wheels, All Saints Lutheran Church of Spokane, Hospice House or any American Legion Post.

A celebration of Ja Dee's life will be held at All Saints Lutheran Church in Spokane on November 8, at 1 p.m.
Our family would like to thank the compassionate and caring nurses at Sacred Heart Hospital on floors 7, 8 and 9 for taking such good of Mom during her journey with cancer. Also, a special thank you to the staff of the Hospice House on the south hill who made Mom's last days comfortable, while preparing us for her departure of this life.
