She was a lifelong resident of Memphis, a member of DAR, former member of Colonial Baptist Church, a member at Kirby Woods Baptist Church and she retired after 50 plus years of service at Oak Hall Clothing store in Memphis. She was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Allie Flippin Black, her husband of 50 plus years Basil Pickens and her grandson William Garrett Pickens. She is survived by her daughter Gina Pickens of Memphis; one son Edwin (Mary) Pickens of Washington DC; one granddaughter Elizabeth Pickens; a cousin William Edwin Harris and a niece Betty Hays. The family wishes to thank the loving support of neighbors, friends and former Memphis Tiger athletes and coaching staff. The family will receive friends Thursday, December 26, 2013 at Memphis Funeral Home Poplar Chapel from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. A funeral service will be held Friday, December 27 at 2 p.m. at Memphis Funeral Home Poplar Chapel.
