FUNERAL OF F. P. HELPHREY
Veteran of the Civil War and County Pioneer Laid to Rest
The funeral of Mr. F. P. Helphrey was held Friday afternoon at his home on East Monroe St. The large house was barely able to accomodate the unusually large number of old friends and acquaintances who were present to honor his memory and to sympathise with his family. Flowers in wonderful beauty and profusion covered the casket. The services were in charge of Rev. W. P. Nicholas of Morning Sun, formerly of the Presbyterian church here and who officiated at the funeral of Mrs. Helphrey during his pastorate here. He was assisted by Reverend McFerran, present pastor of the church of which Mr. Helphrey has long been a member.
A quartette composed of Mrs. J. T. Whiting, Miss Selma Long and Messrs. D. A. Budde and Robert Willits sang a number of familiar hymns. The remarks of Rev. Nocholas were very fine as was the singing.
At the close of the service the body was taken to the funeral car by six friends of the family, Messrs. W. H. Evans, C. E. Logan, J. T. Gillis, T. M. McAdam, Henry Traut and H. A. Geeseka, while six old soldiers, Messrs George Laird, Ed Kitchen, Dr. Myers, C. B Pangborn, Mr. Jacobs and W. P. Young acted as honorary pall bearers for their old comrade to arms. Mr. Helphrey being a member of the Fourth Iowa Cav.
The interment was in beautiful Forest Home.
