Obituary: "Ambrose H. Abbott, formerly court officer at the Central Municipal Criminal Court and for 34 years a Boston police officer, died at his home in Allston on Thursday. He had retired eight years ago. He was a native of Bucksport, Maine, coming to Boston in 1870 and joining the Boston Fire Department three years later. In May 1875, Mr. Abbott was appointed to the Boston Police Department, being assigned to the street railroad squad, the first traffic squad In the department. Many times during his service as a police officer he was commended for his work. In 1889 he became court officer at the Central Municipal Criminal Court and nine year later was promoted to chief court officer there. Mr Abbott leaves a daughter, Miss Ellen Abbott of Allston, and a sister, Mrs. Maria Knowles of Bucksport, Maine."
