Politician. He is best remembered as an active politician and was Member of Parliament for Hackney and St Ives and Chairman of the Bunhill Fields Preservation Commitee which was a burial place for Nonconformists and where literary greats John bunyan, William Blake, Issac Watts and Daniel Defoe are interred. He was also chairman of the London School Board and a associate of the Philanthropist, George Peabody. He was made a Fellow of the Society of Antiquaries and knighted by Queen Victoria in 1874.
