Colvin D. Gatlin, age 81, of 2237 Menasha Avenue, Manitowoc, entered eternal life Monday evening, September 12, 2011 at Holy Family Memorial Medical Center, Manitowoc.

Colvin was born June 29, 1930 in Millersville, Texas. He was the son of the late James and Jessie Edmondson Gatlin. Colvin entered the United States Marine Corps in 1947 and served overseas during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the Marine Aircraft Maintenance Squadron 16 stationed in El Toro, California. After his honorable discharge he went to California and drove truck for his uncle for a couple of years. He then went to Texas where he married Charlotte M. Pech on June 8, 1955. She preceded him in death on September 3, 2011. In 1956 he and his wife then moved to Manitowoc and Colvin was employed by several companies as a truck driver. From 1979 to 1986 he was in partnership with Russell Zahn operating Lakeside Trucking Company. In 1986 Colvin started employment with Burger Boat Company as a security guard until he retired on August 1, 2011.

He is survived by one son: Gary Gatlin, Manitowoc, WI; one daughter and son-in-law: Brenda and Dennis Barter, Waterloo, Iowa; one grandson: Jason P. Barter; three sisters: Elizabeth, Lilly and Jinx, all of Texas; along with other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents: James and Jessie Gatlin; wife: Charlotte; six brothers and sisters.

Private services for the family will be held on Thursday afternoon, September 15, 2011 with military rites to follow at the Harrigan Parkside Funeral Home accorded by the Veterans of Foreign Wars Otto Oas Post #659. Entombment will take place at Calvary Mausoleum, Manitowoc on Friday morning, September 16, 2011.

Colvin will be remembered for his kindness and generosity, his constant smile and friendly words toward everyone he met. His love of animals will always be remembered by his four legged "grandkids", Shylah and Walker Blue. Colvin will be greatly missed by all who came to know and love him.

The Harrigan Parkside Funeral Home and Crematory, North 11th and St. Clair streets, Manitowoc, is assisting the family with funeral arrangements.
