Frank was born in Senheim, Germany, in 1839. When he was 13 years old, he and his parents and siblings immigrated in 1852, in an exodus from Germany. His family was among the poorest in the community, and the German government provided a one way ticket for the poorest in the area to leave Germany forever. His parents were John Zingsheim and Elizabeth Rohrig Zingsheim. He was the second of five children. Frank married Anna Maria, who was one year younger than him. They had two children, Mary Anna and John. Frank worked as a laborer, a broom maker, in Albany, and died in 1886.
