Barbara Ann Decker 88, of Main Street Richmondville died peacefully on Tuesday October 31st at her home under the loving care of family and hospice. Mrs. Decker was born November 10, 1928 in Newburgh, NY a daughter of Robert and Anna (Michael) St.John. She was educated in Newburgh schools and worked in the Defense Factory during WWII.
She also worked as a rug maker in Beacon and at Helen Hazlet"s Store on Broadway making ice cream cones for her love, Georgie. She also assisted in her husband"s business as Bookkeeper at Decker"s Garage in New Windsor. She was a member of Vails Gate Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary.
Barbara was well known as a wonderful seamstress, gardener, baker, and for her Sunday dinners. She was often seen at the track cheering on her son Gary in the 101 stock car. Barb married George James Decker on April 27, 1947.
He predeceased her on September 5, 1990. Survivors include two daughters, Sharon (John) Hughes of Watkinsville, GA and Pam (Jeff) O"Connor of Cobleskill, 4 grandchildren; Amy (Troy) Bassett of Watkinsville, GA, Jeff Hughes of Athens, GA, Jared (Marina) Hughes of Seattle, WA and Sara (Matt) Thom of Richmondville, 2 great-grandchildren; Carsyn Bassett and George Warren Thom, her brother Fred (Gloria) St.John of Montgomery, NY along with several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents and husband, Barbara was predeceased by her son, Gary Decker in 2001.
A calling hour period will be held from 10 to 11AM on Saturday, November 4th at the Langan Funeral Home, 327 Main Street Schoharie followed by prayers and remembrances. Interment will follow in the Old Stone Fort Cemetery Schoharie. Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Mrs. Decker to Alzheimer"s disease Association, 4 Pine West Plaza #405, Albany, NY 12205.
