John Warren Reed known as J Warren Reed, a flashy lawyer that opposed the Hanging Judge in court, Isaac Parker, in Fort Smith, Arkansas, The Indian Territory & Oklahoma. He fought all the way to the President of the United States & the Supreme Court for his clients. He won an unprecedented amount of 132 men out of 134 that were on trial to be hanged in Judge Parkers Courts. Quickly gaining wealth along with many enemies. Judge Parker called him a Scoundrels Scoundrel. Later, he & his wife Viola, who assisted him in his practice, moved to Muskogee. His law practice did not do well in Muskogee & he lost his practice. It is stated that he turned to drinking before his death. He was buried beside his wife in Fort Smith, Arkansas.

J. Warren Reed, a picturesque figure of the pioneer days in the Indian Territory
and Arkansas, died in the Muskogee Hospital today. For thirty years Mr. Reed
was a prominent lawyer in the border days when Judge Isaac Parker reigned at Ft.
Smith and later at Muskogee. During his career he was known as the outlaw's
friend. Of the 134 murder cases where the accused was defended by Mr. Reed, only
two were hanged, and the remainder were acquitted or given light sentences. He
was the author of "Hell on the Border," a book describing stirring scenes at the
old Federal Court at Ft. Smith.
