Funeral services for Kenneth Mathis, 87, of Overton, will be at 4:00 pm November 5, 2017 at Cottle Funeral Home with the Reverend Steven Oakes officiating. Interment will be in the Dallas Fort Worth National Cemetery, 2000 Mountain Creek Pkwy, Dallas, TX 75211, under the direction of Cottle Funeral Home, Troup.

Kenneth passed away Thursday, November, 2, 2017. He was born July, 4, 1930 in Paducah, Texas to the late Frank and Janie Copprell Mathis. He was enlisted as a Corporal in the US Army and was a 2 time recipient of the Purple Heart during the Korean conflict, he was also associated with the American Legion and VFW.

He is preceded in death by his son, David Wayne Mathis and a granddaughter, Kelbi Mathis.

Survivors include his children, Rodney Mathis and wife Linn of Troup, Terri Mathis and husband Gordon Gragson of Whitehouse, and Michael Mathis of Portland, Oregon; siblings, Jerry Mathis of Eustace, Noble Mathis of Forney, and Donny Mathis of Wills Point; 5 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.

The family will receive friends and loved ones at Cottle Funeral Home in Troup from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm Sunday, November 5, 2017.

In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to the St. Jude’s Childrens Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Pl, Memphis, TN 38105.
