U.S. Congressman. He moved to Kentucky in 1816, studied law, was admitted to the bar and proceeded to practice law. Moving to Missouri, he engaged in the practice of law, later moved to Dubuque, Iowa in 1837 and continued the practice of law. In 1857, he was elected as a Republican to the Thirty-fifth Congress, serving until 1859. After his term, he resumed the practice of law and engaged in business activities in Dubuque, Iowa. He also was a merchant miller in Elkader, Iowa, Galesville, Wisconsin and Pickwick, Minnesota.
