"One of Madison County's most beloved personalities, Dr. Robert Johnson Westbrook, 77, of Ila, Ga, was laid to final rest Wednesday. His death after a three week ilness ended more than 50 years of unselfish service to his community as a family physician. He had resided in Ila 64 years."

In 1900 he taught at the Passmore school in Lowndes County, Ga along with his brother Lewis. During this time, influenced by his brother George, he decided to become a doctor and subsequently graduated from the Medical College of Georgia in 1904, at which time he married Desdemona Smith.
