SUE CAROL HAMMOCK

Sue Carol Pritt Hammock, 65, of South Charleston was set free from her earthly body on Feb. 22, 2007, and went home to be with the Lord after a long illness.

She was born in Big Chimney, but lived most of her life in St. Albans and South Charleston. She attended church at the Rose of Sharon Fellowship in St. Albans. She was a homemaker, a mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and, above all, a true friend to so many who sought her guidance and comfort. She was the rock and foundation during times of hardship to everyone she knew. Surely, our loss is Heaven's gain.

She leaves behind her husband, Jerry Hammock; mother, Aretta Pritt Bird; son and daughter-in-law, John and Donna Poling of Chesterfield, Va.; daughters and a son-in-law, Tammy Sydenstricker of Charleston and Suzette and Ted Pate of St. Albans; stepson and his wife, Gary and Robin Hammock of St. Louis, Mo.; 11 grandchildren, Eric Toon, Melissa Toon, Michael Sydenstricker, Bethanie Pate, Johnny Poling, Amanda Monroe, Bryan Pate, Christy Poling, Kelly Pate, Katrina Hammock and Ian Hammock; three great-grandchildren, Mariah Graves, Kurrin Frank and Nicole Frank; and sisters, Helen Scipio of St. Albans and Annabelle McClure of Las Vegas, Nev.

Service will be noon Tuesday, Feb. 27, at Good Shepherd Mortuary, South Charleston, with the Rev. David Bragg and the Rev. David Samms officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park, South Charleston. Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at the mortuary.
