He was born May 21, 1921, in rural Mound Valley to True and Opal (Scott) Keeslar. He attended school in rural Mound Valley and graduated from Labette County Community High School in 1938. He served in the U.S. Army and worked for Chicago Fire Department. He later attended Pittsburg State University and received his master's degree in education.
He first taught school at Elston, a one-room schoolhouse northeast of Altamont. He later moved to Clearwater, where he was a principal for nine years. He then moved to Wichita, where he was principal at Roosevelt, Marshall and Mayberry junior high schools. He retired from the Wichita school system in 1986 after 29 years.
Following his retirement, he moved back to the farm in rural Mound Valley. He helped his neighbor, Kenneth Ware, with rental houses and started K-Valley Farms, a cow-calf operation with his friend and neighbor, Kevin Keltz.
He was a member of Mound Valley United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his friends and caregivers, Kevin and Stephanie Keltz and their daughter, Mallory; and cousins, Marlene Goforth and family of Miami, Okla., Ladonna and Bob Scott and family of Tulsa, Madeline Jordan of Nowata, Okla., and Bonnie and Paul Harder and family of Wichita.
The service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Mound Valley United Methodist Church with the Rev. Tom Reazin officiating. Burial will be in Mound Valley Cemetery. Friends may call today at Bath-Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Altamont.
