12 Mar 2007: Philip D. Adams, 74, Bellefonte, died Saturday, March 10, 2007, at Mount Nittany Medical Center. Born in Bellefonte March 21, 1932, he was a son of the late Roy H. and Vera Hile Adams. On Aug. 16, 1953, in Pleasant Gap, he married Faye Saxion, who survives at home. Philip was a 1950 graduate of Bellefonte High School. He earned his bachelor of arts degree at Indiana University of Pennsylvania in 1957, his master's degree in education from Penn State in 1959 and his education specialist's degree from Central Missouri State University in 1969. In addition to his wife, he is survived by sons Edward R. Adams of Bellefonte, Darryl H. Adams of Spring Township, and Steven I. Adams of Bellefonte; brother David H. Adams, of Akron, OH; and four grandchildren. Philip served in the U.S. Army Signal Corps with the American Occupation Forces in Austria from 1953 to 1955. For his service, he was awarded the Army of Occupation Medal Germany, Good Conduct Medal SEC GO # 30 HQ SIG BN DTD 20 DEC .54, and the National Defense Service Medal. From 1957 to 1993, he taught in the State College Area School District as a driver's education instructor. He was a life member and past president of Pennsylvania Association of Safety Education and past board member of American Driver and Traffic Safety Education Association. Philip served as an assistant scout master for Troop 66 of Pleasant Gap for approximately 10 years. He was a past commander of Houtz-Meyers-Rose Post 867 American Legion of Pleasant Gap, past commander of Centre Clearfield Bi-County and past adjutant of 23d District American Legion. He was a life member of VFW Post 1600 of Bellefonte and a member of Benevolent and Protective Order of the Elks, Lodge Number 1094 in Bellefonte. Philip was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Bellefonte, where he served as a member of the administrative board, on the finance committee, and on the board of trustees.
