Helen M. Hackett, 96, of Downingtown, PA, passed away on Thursday, November 2, 2017at St. Martha Manor. She was the beloved wife of the late Gerald F. Hackett, with whom she shared 62 years of marriage, prior to his passing in 2009

Born in Springfield, MA, to Katherine and Luke Smith, she was the fourth of five siblings; James, Luke, Anna, Helen and Alfred. She grew up in Springfield and became a long term resident of Agawam when she married. Upon retirement she moved to Glenmoore, PA, to live near her only son, Charles A. Hackett, and his family.

Mrs. Hackett, an avid reader, enjoyed school and graduated from Commerce High School in 1939. She had a strong work ethic and the energy of seven women. She never stood still and managed to balance caring for her family with full time work as a book keeper, working twenty years for AJ Spalding Company and fifteen years for Buxton Company.
Helen loved good food and socializing with her family and many friends. Her baking skills were unmatched.

Throughout her lifetime Helen had an unwavering faith in God. She was an active member of St. John’s (Agawam, MA), St. Peter Parish (West Brandywine, PA), and attended mass daily while living at St. Martha Manor in Downingtown, PA.
This kind, generous woman took great pride in her Irish heritage and will always be remembered for her quick wit and concern for others.

Most importantly, Helen was devoted to her family. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother and will be deeply missed by her only son, Charles A. Hackett and his wife Kristine W. Hackett of Glenmoore, PA, and her grandchildren, Jonathan Hackett (Kelly) of Des Moines, Iowa, and Casey Hackett of San Francisco, California.

A Memorial Mass will take place at 11 am on Saturday, November 11, at St. John the Evangelist Church, 833 Main St, Agawam, MA 01001. Friends and family will be greeted prior to the mass, beginning at 10:30.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Catholic Charities USA, 2050 Ballenger Avenue, Suite 400, Alexandria, VA 22314, or to the National Parkinson Foundation, 800 Spruce St, Philadelphia, PA 19107.
