Betty J. McMullen, 91, of Grand Island passed away on Thursday, November 9, 2017.

Celebration of life services will be held in Betty’s honor on Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church in the Gollaher Chapel. Rev. Dr. Russ Anderson will officiate. Burial will follow at Grand Island City Cemetery. All Faiths Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Betty was born on August 12, 1926 in Albion, youngest daughter of Floyd and Laura Griesdorf.
Betty’s memory is cherished by her children, Dan McMullen of Grand Island, Shirley (Dan) Huebner of Hastings; Mary (Glenn) Conaway of Lincoln; five grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren along with numerous nieces, nephews extended family and friends.
Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Edgar in 2000; parents; sister, Fern Pontious; and brother, Lester Griesdorf.
Betty grew up on the family farm near Loretta by Albion, where she attended school. After school she stayed to help her parents with the farm and met Edgar McMullen. When Edgar returned from serving in WWII they were married on December 5, 1945.
Following their marriage, they made their home in Grand Island where Betty was employed by Grand Island Senior High as a cook for over 35 years. Cooking wasn’t just a job to Betty, she loved to cook for her family and no one left her house hungry.
Betty was a member of the Platt Duetsche, Betty Boop Club and Trinity United Methodist Church. She loved a good card game, Dominos or Bingo. Betty was a gifted pianist. She learned to play by ear while singing and felt every note. She was an entertainer and loved to have everyone sing with her as she played. When her sister was around dueling pianos would begin and Betty’s laughter could be picked out of a crowd. Betty’s contagious laugh and continuous love and support for her family will be missed.
