Shirley (Legere) Alie, 79, of Newington passed away peacefully with her family on Monday August 14, 2006 at Sunbridge of Portsmouth Living Center following a lengthy illness. Mrs. Alie was born November 17, 1926 in Dover, the daughter of Joseph Arnold and Corinne (Bourneuf) Legere. With her family, she moved to Claremont and graduated from Stevens High School. Shirley had a talent for skating and performed with the Claremont Skating Club in winter carnivals. In 1947 she married Robert P. Alie, Doctor of Optometry and resided in Dover until their move to Newington in 1972. Shirley was active with the Newington Neighbor Newspaper and was a Supervisor of the Checklist for several voting periods. Her joy was working in her flower gardens and sharing their beauty with others. She was a communicant of St. Catherine if Siena Church in Portsmouth Shirley is survived by her children Ronald Alie and his wife, Sherry of Deerfield, NH, Gary Alie and his wife, Cindy, of Naperville, IL Diane Peters and her husband, Randy of Freeport, ME, Carol Niles and her husband, Robert of Pownal, ME and Kimberly Bateman of Barrington, NH She also leaves behind ten grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and sisters Marjorie Legere of Dover, NH and Blanche Gardner of Rollinsford, NH and a sister-in-law, Arlyne Leger of Hampton, NH. Several nieces and nephews also survive Shirley. Mrs. Alie was predeceased by husband Dr. Robert Alie, infant daughter Cynthia, two grandchildren, brother, Charles Legere, and sister Lucille Casey. Visiting hours to be held Wednesday evening from 4-8 at Tasker Funeral Home of Dover. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 AM, Thursday, August 17, 2006 at St. Catherine’s of Siena Church, 845 Woodbury Avenue, Portsmouth. Burial will follow at Saint Charles Cemetery of Dover. Please join the family in a celebration of life at the Newington Town Hall following the burial service.
