M. Dolores "Pudgy" Black, 92, of South Sioux City, NE. passed away on Sat. 6 Sept. 2014, at the Regency Square Care Center. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Thurs. 11 Sept., at St. Michael's Catholic Church in South Sioux City, with Father Jose Mendoza as Celebrant. Interment will follow at St. Michael's Cemetery. Visitation will be on Wed.10 Sept. from 4 to 8 p.m. at Meyer Brothers Colonial Morningside Chapel, with the family present at 6 p.m. & a Vigil service at 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
Dolores was born 13 May 1922, in Danbury, IA. to Raymond J. & Mary C. "Celly" (Fitzpatrick) Sexton. She received her education at St. Mary's Catholic Grade School in Danbury before graduating with the class of 39 from Danbury High School. Dolores continued her studies at the St. Vincent's Hospital College of Nursing in Sioux City, graduating class of 1944.
She married Roy Louis "Junior" Black on 26 Feb. 1949, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Sioux City. To this union, 2 children were born, Daniel Roy Black & Mary Bridget Black.
Dolores was a Registered Nurse at St. Vincent's / Marion Health retiring 14 May 1981.
Dolores is survived by her son, Daniel Roy (Barbara A.) Black of South Sioux City & a daughter, Mary Bridget (Black) Grant of Wichita Falls, TX.; a brothers, Robert H. "Bob" Sexton of Tuscon, AZ. & Kieran R. "Tiny" Sexton (Jean Bossow) of Sioux City; sister-in-law, Connie (Black) Hensley of Englewood, FL.; 9 grandchildren, Sunshine Marie (Black) (Jeremy) McGinty of Carlsbad, CA., Ashley Ann (Black) (Tony) Moravek of Sioux City, Seth Daniel Black of Portland, OR., Carter Roy Black of Omaha, NE., Cain Richard Grant (Tawny Jessica Garcia) of Austin, TX., & Brie Ann Grant of Austin; 5 great-grandchildren, Noah Blue & Grace Kaley McGinty, Ava Ann & Mason Roy Moravek, Awyn Noelle Grant.
Dolores is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Roy inJune 1988; sisters, Maxine Arney & her husband, Bill & Veda Mae Workman & her husband, George; brother, Thomas "Skip" Sexton & his wife, Fern "Cubby"; niece, Janice Walterman; brother-in-law, Patrick J. Black; & sister-in-law, Mrs. Robert "Ila" Sexton.
A special thanks from Dolores' family to Regency Square Care Center for their faithful Service & to Hospice of Siouxland.
Casket bearers will be Dolores' grandchildren, to whom she was a very devoted grandmother, & Honor Guard by St. Vincent's Nursing Alumni, an organization of which she was proudly associated.
