Howard Romaine Ranum was born in Lincoln, Nebraska. The oldest of three children to Septer Nine (buried at Fairmount Cemetery in Denver, Colorado) and Margaret (Chmela) Ranum (buried next to Howard). Brothers were Kenneth Edwin and Francis Willard (both buried at Fairmount Cemetery). Played cornet and toured with a big band (I believe it was Verge Campbell) in the 1930s. He married Irma Arline Miller on 24 Feb 1940 in Columbus, Nebraska. Along with working for the Volunteer Fire Department he was also a bookkeeper. They had three children: Donald Milton, Margaret Rachael, and Robert Howard. Howard died three days after his 80th birthday. At that time he also had 9 grandchildren, and 3 great-grandchildren.

Born February 24, 1911 in Lincoln, Nebraska.  The oldest of 3 children (Kenneth, Willard).  Married:
Lydia Burback March 30, 1936 in Clarinda, Page County, Iowa. No children. Divorced 1938.
Irma Arline Miller on February 24,  1940 in Lincoln, Nebraska.  Played Cornet and traveled with Orchestra throughout Nebraska in  the 1930s.  Later became a bookkeeper, as well as Volunteer Fire Department.  Died February  27, 1991 in Sheridan, Colorado.  Buried in Drinkwine Cemetery in Littleton, Colorado. 
1920 Census shows Howard, his parents, his two brothers, Kenneth and Francis (Willard), and his Uncle Gabriel living at 1716 P St. In Havelock,  Nebraska. 
1930 Census shows Howard and family living at 3401 Holdrege St. In Lincoln, Nebraska.  His  occupation is a Musician. 
1940 Census shows Howard and Irma living at 1421 P St Apt 331 on Lincoln, Nebraska.  His occupation is a typist for WPA extension department. 
1950 Census shows Howard, his wife, Irma, and their children, Donald and Margaret, living at 3310 S. Marion St. in Englewood, Colorado,  His occupation was a bookkeeper for a wholesale lumber company.
