Mary Ann F. Hamberger, age 77, of Fond du Lac, died Saturday, November 11, 2017, at Hospice Home of Hope. She was born at home in the Township of LeRoy on August 26, 1940 to Joseph and Esther (Scheberl) Gassner. On February 20, 1960 she married Arthur J. Hamberger. He preceded her in death on September 18, 1999. She received a heart transplant at UW Madison on December 22, 1988 and has battled cancer since November 2016. Mary Ann graduated from Lomira High School in 1959. She worked at International Paper in Fond du Lac and for a time at Infant Socks and also helped make ice cream at Lamartine Creamery. She volunteered her time at several places.

Survivors include one daughter, Cheryl (David) Abitz of Fond du Lac, Kevin L. Hamberger of Fond du Lac; five grandchildren, Amy (Ian) Harris, Michael (Meghan) Abitz, Eric (Lindsey) Hamberger, Gary Abitz, Christopher Hamberger; four great-grandchildren; former daughter-in-law, Sue Aschliman; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband; one son, Bruce; one infant grandson, Adam Abitz; one brother, Ermin and Delores Gassner; four sisters, Bernice and Paul Baierl, Gertrude and Aaron Retzlaff, Beatrice and Willard Krueger, and Lyra and Reno Battistine; longtime companion of fourteen years, John Kempfer; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Kenny and Elaine Hamberger, Betty and Edward Schlibline, and Shirley McAuly.

Visitation will take place on Sunday, November 19, 2017 from 1-3 PM at Uecker-Witt Funeral Home, 524 N. Park Ave, Fond du Lac, WI, 54935. A funeral service will follow at the funeral home at 3:00 PM. Entombment will take place at Chapel of the Risen Christ Mausoleum.
