My parents rented a small house from Ludwig and Fannie around 1951-1952 when my dad worked for Philco near Philadelphia. They had no children. The Gandorfer farm in Hatfield was named "Pinehurst Farm." When I was born, they gave me a 14" tall ceramic Cocker Spaniel that I carried around all through my childhood, and still have to this day. (See photo)
Ludwig's 1942 military registration card shows that he was 5' 6" tall, weighed 210 pounds, had brown & gray hair with blue eyes, a ruddy complexion, and a large birthmark in the middle of his back.
Ludwig died at North Penn Hospital in Lansdale, Montgomery Co., PA. His death certificate states that he died from a heart attack, was a retired farmer and butcher, was the son of Johann & Anna Gandorfer, and had been born in Neiderhumel, Germany (although no town with that name can be found in Germany).
Fannie wrote to my mother after Ludwig's death, enclosing his funeral card (see photo), and a letter stating that she had sent "him home to Germany. He left by air plane three a.m. Thursday morning. He will arrive there ten p.m. on Saturday."
