She was born March 20, 1935 in Rockport, WV to the late Charles and Norma Eaton.
Betty graduated from Parkersburg High School and went on to become a 1957 graduate of the Camden Clark School of Nursing. She enjoyed a 46 year nursing career at the offices of Dr. Jack Jay Stark and Dr. Charles Reyes, respectively.
Betty loved going fishing and dancing with her late husband Alva "Duke" Atkinson and they would often enjoy these fun times with their family and many friends. She also had a great love and devotion to God and hoped to plant seeds of faith in the hearts of everyone she knew. She enjoyed her fellowship with the Lord at Liberty Street Church of God in Parkersburg.
She is survived by her daughter Sheri McDougle (Barry); stepchildren Stephen Jay Atkinson (Deanna), Jennifer Fountain (Bruce), Cynthia Witherspoon (Bart), and Dianne Pratt; 11 grandchildren; and 6 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her daughter Carey (Hall) Montgomery, five brothers, and a sister.
The family will receive guests Friday, November 17, 2017 from 11am-1pm at Leavitt Funeral Home, Parkersburg with a service officiated by Pastor Brian Harrell to follow at 1pm.
Burial will be at Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
