Melvin J. Adams, 91, of Sylvania Township passed away Thursday, June 18, 2015 ,at the Ebeid Hospice Residence. He was born September 27, 1923, to Melvin and Gladys Mae (Hill) Adams in Toledo. After attending school, Mel served his country in the U.S. Navy, owned and operated a home improvement company, drove a bus for the Sylvania School District for 21 years and was a Cub Master of pack 149. Mel's passion of many things included playing cards, win or lose, gardening (which he tried unsuccessfully to pass along to his children) and he enjoyed visiting his family and grandchildren. Mel was extremely proud that he and his wife were charter members of the Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, just short of being founding members of the congregation.

Mel was preceded in death by his parents; wife of 65 years, Leona "Lee" Adams; 4 brothers, and 1 sister. He is survived by children, Bob (Karen) Adams, Mary Lou (Ivan) Pickering and Roger Adams; also surviving are his 5 grandchildren, Dawn Ahrens, Sheri Jones, Marc Adams, Jeremy Pickering, Daniel Pickering, and 18 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be Tuesday from 3:00-8:00 p.m. at the Dowling Funeral Home, 7509 New West Road at King Road, (King Rd. between Central and Sylvania Ave.) Toledo, 419-841-8111. There will also be visitation Wednesday from 10:30 a.m. until services at 11:30 a.m. at the Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, 5845 Elmer Road, Toledo. Interment will follow at Ottawa Hills Memorial Park.
