AVON—Vernon M. Copeland, 67, died Thursday night at McDonough District Hospital at Macomb after a lingering illness. He was longtime resident of Avon, at one time operating the Avon Farmer's Elevator.

He was born June 7, 1895, in Fulton County. He was married in Knox County Dec. 16, 1916, to Leta Irons, who survives.

Also surviving are four daughters, Mrs. Dorothy Orwig of Prairie City, Mrs. Lucille Pilcher of Galesburg, Mrs. Ellen Beers of Champaign and Mrs. Marilyn Sheckler of Walnut Grove; two
sons, Dale of East Moline Laverne of Peru, and 12 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers and a son.

Funeral services will be Sunday at 2:30 p. m. at the Brand Funeral Home in Avon. Rev. Donald Jones of Petersburg will officiate assisted by Rev. Dale Sanner of Avon. Burial will be in the Prairie City Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home Saturday afternoon and evening.
