Obituary for James Thomas Davis, Sr.
James “Jimmy” Thomas Davis, Sr., 79, husband of Darleen Brooks Davis, of Keels Road East., died Wednesday, November 15, 2017 at his residence surrounded by his loving family.
Born June 27, 1938 in Ninety Six to the late James Harold and Margaret Elizabeth Walker Davis, he was a 1956 graduate of Ninety Six High School, Jimmy served 6 years in the U.S. Navy and retired from Carolina Pride as a truck driver after 23 years of faithful service.
Jimmy was a member of the Cattleman’s Association Beef Producers. He attended New Life Pentecostal Holiness Church. The Founder of the Nicaragua Christmas Ministry over 18 years ago, he was also a Certified Lay Minister, on the Pastors Council, Sunday School Superintendent for over 20 years, Youth Circle Leader, a Teacher, and an avid hunter.
Surviving other than his wife of 59 years of the home are his sons, Jim Davis (Tammy) of Greenwood, Steve Davis (Patricia) of Abbeville, and Jeff Davis (Tabby) of Hodges; his grandchildren, Stephanie Stanley (Cliff), Brooke McCaslan (Will) all of Abbeville, Stevi Stallings (Jeremy), Tommy Davis all of Greenwood, Caitlin Smith (Cullum) of James Island, Erika Davis of Clemson, and Kendall Davis of Hodges; 4 great grandchildren; his brother Wayne Davis (Alice) of Chappells; his sisters, Norma Joiner of Greenwood and Glenda Rochester of Stockbridge, Ga. He was predeceased by 2 brothers, Franky Davis and Ken Davis.
Funeral services wil be conducted Saturday, 2:00 P.M. from the Blyth Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Thomas Brooks, Rev. Greg Holladay, and Ted Collins officiating. Burial will follow at Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
The family is at the home and will receive friends Friday Evening from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be nephews, Tommy Brooks, Donnie Knight, Bob Fisher, Evan Hoffman, Alan Joiner, and Phillip Rochester.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made in Jimmy’s memory to the Nicaragua Christmas Ministry, c/o New Life Pentecostal Holiness Church, P.O. Box 369 Hodges, SC 29653.
