On July 2, 1957, Ray married L. Ann McKinney in a Christian ceremony held at the First Christian Church of Eugene, Oregon. They recently celebrated sixty years of marriage together. Ray and Ann have three children, a son-in-law, and two beloved grandchildren. Naomi R. Bowler, Des Moines, IA; Louise M. Bowler Boston, MA; Alberta R. Bowler-Keeler, Wesley Keeler (son-in-law), Anna Elspeth and Wilona Wallace Keeler, grandchildren all of Des Moines, IA.
Ray served fifteen years as a pastor in the Disciples of Christ denomination serving in the states of Washington and Iowa. Ray and Ann moved to Iowa with their daughters, Naomi and Louise, so that Ray could attend Drake University to obtain his masters in Divinity. Ray’s last pastorate was at the Carlisle Christian Church, Carlisle IA, ending in 1974. He worked as a salesman for several years. In 1982 he received an associate degree from American Institute of Business. He then worked at AIB for over ten years becoming the Director of Computer Administration.
Most recently, Ray had been become a member of Urbandale United Church of Christ, a Just Peace congregation, where he felt he was truly part of God’s great plan to feed, shelter, clothe, educate, and heal the world.
“There’s nothing better than a hug from Grandpa Bowler.” Repeatedly said over the years by Anna Elspeth and Wilona Wallace Keeler, grandchildren.
