Darold was a man born to humble circumstances. The first part of his life was lived on the corner of River St.and 13th Street in downtown Boise. His father worked for Baxter's Foundry and the other part of his childhood was spent living in a little Shack on the Baxter Foundry property. He was a troublemaker and out of his own mouth he was kicked out of about every school in Boise. One of his favorite stories was how he put a goat in the bell tower of his school in downtown Boise off of 5th. He also told the story about how he was playing around a construction site and almost lost his life to a rock Crusher in order to get out of the rock Crusher he had to take off his pants and he had to run home with no pants on and he passed a group of school girls and he was really embarrassed. When Dad got into High School one of his former principles who had beat him with a rubber hose wound up being a high school teacher of his and dad would have nothing to do with that. So Grandpa gave him the option of going in the military. He entered the military in 1948 and found himself on the Korean peninsula in 1951 has a Marine of the first Marine Division. He never talked much about the war except he obviously didn't like K rations anything with beans and he just ducked at the right times. After Korea he used his GI Bill to become a machinist like his father and so he attended Boise Junior College which is now BSU and got certified as a machinist. After college, he got a job up at Boeing in Seattle but did not enjoy it and I think part of the reason was is that he always had humidity induced asthma. He quit his job and came back to Boise and worked with his father at Baxter's Foundry which one time was right below the train station in Boise right off of Capital Boulevard. While living in Boise, he met the Deanna Mae Smith on a blind date. After a short courtship they were married on September 15th 1956 which is the same month and day as his mother and father. They were married in the LDS Church he called it the old 6th and 12th Ward building which I believe is now the Park Center building on Broadway in Boise. For a while Darold worked with his father-in-law in the film developing business and then decided that he needed to do something better to take care of his family and so he decided to go back in the military this time as a machinist in the US Air Force. He and Deanna had Many Adventures and invited many children into their home. He and Deanna were married for 45 years.
