Headstone Records date of birth as 1832; however, she was baptised Dec. 25, 1831, so one of the years was recorded incorrectly.
From The Gowanlock Family Tree 1722 - 1999:
Jane was born Dec. 7, 1832 at Stoney Gott, County pf Cumberland, England (on the border of England and Scotland) and was still in her teens when she came to Canada with her parents [Adam Armstrong & Jane Davidson].
Robert and Jane were married near Brampton, Ontario in 1848 [however, according to marriage registrations, they were married Jan. 28, 1850 in Toronto, Home District, Ontario.]. In 1851 they came with his parents and siblings to Bruce County, which was still a forest and had not been put on the market for settlement. They made the journey from Durham by oxen to the present Brant Township and passed by the only house, which was then in Hanover. They couple later discovered that there was only one house about this time in Walkerton. A few families had come into the township that year and they settled near them at Maple Hill, Mr. Gowanlock taken up Lot 54, on the 2nd concession where he hewed out a home and cleared a splendid farm, and where for over half a century they lived and prospered.
Robert sold 2 acres of his land on Lot 55, Brant Township, for the building of the new S.S. #3, Maple Hill School in February 1873.
Robert passed away in 1907. On the death of her husband, Mrs. Gowanlock left Brant, where she was highly esteemed to become a respected resident of Walkerton, until her death in 1915. They are buried in Walkerton Cemetery in the family plot (862).

1. Jane "Jeannie", 1851-1935, married John A McGill
2. William, 1854-?, married Margaret Gilles
3. Adam G, 1855-1922, married Sarah Ann Ellis
