Marie A. Bitter, 99, of Stonehill Care Center, died Sunday, March 18, 2007, at the care center.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Mary's Catholic Church. Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Key West, Iowa. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Hoffmann-Schneider Funeral Home, 1640 Main St., where there will be a wake service at 4 p.m.

Marie was born on December 12, 1907, in Dubuque, daughter of Albert and Mary (Kress) Bitter.

She was a graduate of the former Visitation Academy and attended Clarke College, both in Dubuque.

She worked for nine years in the Advertising Department of the Telegraph Herald in Dubuque.

Marie enjoyed a long career in Washington, D.C. She also worked at the former Interstate Commerce Commission for nine years. After her stay in Washington, she returned to Dubuque.

She loved solving crossword puzzles and was an avid reader. She was content with her life at Windsor Park and lived there for many happy years, where she enjoyed her friends.

Marie was a member of St. Mary's Parish.

Surviving are cousins, friends and a special friend, Kitty Cavanaugh.
