Mr. George A. von Lingen, the German Consul at this port and dead of the shipping firm of A. Schumacher & Co., died at his home 10 East Mount Vernon Place, at 9 A.M. yesterday. He was well known in business and commercial circles, not only locally, but throughout the Eastern slope, his shipping connections giving him a wide acquaintance among all who deal with the North German Lloyd Steamship Company, of which he was the direct representative.

He had been ailing for several months ... He had retired from most of his duties.

The cause of his death was acute pulmonary trouble, as his lungs had been affected for some time. ... When in his library he gave a sudden gasp for breath and fell unconscious in a chair. Death followed almost immediately.

... return of Mr. Charles W. Field, Mr. von Lingen's son-in-law ... The funeral will probably take place Saturday, burial in Greenmount Cemetery. In the von Lingen lot is buried Miss Emily von Lingen, a daughter, who died at the age of 17 years.

Mr. von Lingen was born in Bremen, Germany, July 4, 1838. His father was Carl von Lingen, a noted lawyer of that city, and a doctor of laws of one of the German universities.

Mr. von Lingen is survived by a widow, formerly Miss Albe Webb, of this city, and one daughter, Mrs. Charles W. Field, who before her marriage, Miss Alberta von Lingen. ...
