Marian V. Christel, 91, a resident of Caring Hands Assisted Living, New Holstein died on Monday morning, Nov. 20, 2017.
She was the former Marian Vogel, born in St. Nazianz on July 16, 1926, daughter of the late Walter and Marie (Schmitt) Vogel.
Marian was a Kiel High School Graduate. She furthered her education at the County Normal Teachers College, Manitowoc.
On Oct. 6, 1951, she was united in marriage to Lambert Christel at St. Gregory's Catholic Church, St. Nazianz. Lambert preceded her in death on Dec. 6, 1980.
Marian had worked as a teacher for a short time. When her children were born she took great pride in staying home and raising her family. As her children grew and attended school she went back to teaching and continued to educate young minds until the late 70's when she began to manage The St. Nazianz Nutrition Site. She dedicated herself to helping the people of St. Nazianz for over 35 years until her retirement at the age of 89.
Marian was an active member of St. Gregory's Catholic Church and was an avid reader. She was always concerned with helping others, especially seniors, in any way she could. Above all else she enjoyed the time with her family including her beloved grandchildren.
Survivors include her children, Chris (Cheryl) Christel of California, Ann Christel of Kiel, Glenn (Lynn) Christel of rural Kiel, Dale (Mardelle) Christel of rural Kiel; eight grandchildren, Leah Christel, Kristy (Clark) Heine, Jake Schwinn, Daniel (Amber) Christel, Jackie (Phil) Plagemann, Max Christel (Fiance Andrea Meinke), Dana Christel, Alex Christel (fiance Brianna Faber); great-grandchildren, Noah Heine, Gavin and Nolan Christel, Amelia Plagemann, Adam Christel. Marian is also survived by her sister Shirley (Jim) Kimberlain of Racine; sisters-in-law, Mary Vogel and Alice Vogel both of Kiel. She is further survived by Ann Marvich, Neil Schwinn and Kay Schueffner, along with nieces, nephews other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; brothers, Chester and Charlie Vogel; sisters-in-law, Nell (Ray) Schuler, Stasia (LeRoy) Weigand and Colletta (Roman) Salm.
Funeral Mass for Marian will be held at 3 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 24 at St. Gregory Catholic Church (214 Church St., St. Nazianz) with the Rev. Patrick Nelson S.D.S. officiating. Family will greet relatives and friends at the church on Friday from 11 a.m. until 2:45 p.m. when we will have brief family rites before Mass at 3 p.m. A private family burial will take place in the Parish Cemetery on Saturday.
