A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. today (Friday, Feb. 15), at Bellview A.M.E. Zion Church, Robbins, with the Rev. John Sharpe officiating.
Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Mr. Caviness was born Jan. 24, 1952, in Mineral Springs Township, Moore County, a son of the late Dallas and Eliza Williams Caviness.
He and his family attended St. Mary's Holiness Church, Carthage.
He graduated from North Moore High School, Robbins, and then relocated to Metuchen, N.J., where he worked as a manager at Floor Shine Shoe Store, where he met and married his wife of 13 years, the late Vivian M. Hamilton.
Mr. Caviness and his wife relocated to Aurora, Colo., where they had two children. While there, he became manager of a local Dish Network, and married Mary E. Logan. Soon after, they relocated to Robbins, where Mr. Caviness became manager of Fred's Department Store.
"He will be greatly missed for his energetic and outgoing personality and wonderful storytelling," says a family member.
Mr. Caviness was preceded in death by a brother, Clarence A. Caviness; and two sisters, Shirley Ann Brower and Brenda Mickens.
He is survived by his wife, Mary E. Logan; a daughter, Melissa Ann Caviness, of Pueblo, Colo.; a son, Robert Lee Caviness Jr. and his wife, Michelle, of Aurora; four stepchildren, Lenora and Blaine Minezzi, of Macomb, Mo., Adrian Hicks, of St. Louis, Amanda Hicks, of Buffalo, N.Y., and Penny Logan, of Littleton, Colo.; two sisters, Mary Ann Turner and her husband, Bill, and Christine Walker and her husband, Doug, of Charlotte; four brothers, Dallas Caviness Jr. and his wife, Jannis, of Robbins, Larry Caviness, of Charlotte, and Mitchell Caviness and his wife, Nadine, of Goodyear, Ariz., and Nick Tzanakis and his wife, Debbie, of Ewing, N.J.; two grandchildren, Jaxon and Delaney; and eight step-granchildren.
