Death of George W. Sheesley.
By the death of George W. Sheesley of North Second street, which occurred last Saturday morning, Lykens loses one of its most foremost and respected citizens. Mr. Sheesleys' sickness dates back to last February, when he was attacked with rheumatism. Since that time other complications set in, and while only periodically confined to bed, yet the nature of his deseases caused him much suffering. During his sickness he exhibited much courage and strange as it may be, Mr. Sheesley was always previous to this affliction, a well and hearty man. He was in his 54th year.
The deceased was a life long resident of Dauphin county. Born in Jefferson township, and a son the late George Sheesley, he in his early manhood learned the trade of a carpenter, he came to reside in Lykens In 1888, but for fifteen years previous was employed at his trade here, at one time being employed as carpenter at the breaker. August, 1898, he and his son, H. E Sheesley, started the brush factory running it under the name of George W. Sheesley & Son.
Mr. Sheesley was married twenty-nine years ago to Margaret Zimmerman, then at Jackson township, and from this union one child was born H. E. Sheesley. The deceased was a veteran of the Civil war and served for three years and three months. He was a member of the Fisherville Post, G. A. R. and a delegation of that Post and Heilner Post of this place attended the funeral and had charge of the services at the grave. He was also a member of Zion Lutheran church.
The funeral was held Tuesday afternoon and was largely attended, After a short service at the house conducted by Rev. D. L, Mackenzie, interment was made in Odd Fellows cemetery.
