Daughter of Frederick Alexander & Lois Adalene Dooley Armstrong.
Married Vernon "Bud" Ragar on February 4, 1956.Urma Sue Ragar, 79, of Monroe City, formerly of San Antonio, Texas, passed away Nov. 22, 2017, at the Monroe City Manor nursing home, surrounded by her loving family. She was born Dec. 8, 1937, in Stoutsville, the daughter of Fred Armstrong and Adalene Armstrong England. Urma Sue was a graduate of Paris High School. She worked at several retail stores in Monroe City. She enjoyed baking and working in the garden. She is survived by her significant other of 43 years, Carl Summers of Monroe City, formerly of San Antonio, Texas. She married Vernon (Buddy) Ragar on Feb. 4, 1956. Children surviving out of the marriage are one son, Kevin Ragar of Monroe City; three daughters, Melinda Dexter and husband Richard of Monroe City, Brenda Shortridge and husband Jim of Stoutsville, Tina Begley of Philadelphia; six grandsons, Jason Dexter and wife Samantha of Monroe City, Keith Shortridge and wife Mandy of Stoutsville, Wesley Begley of Philadelphia, Christopher Dexter and wife Kimberly of Monroe City, Chance Begley and wife Felicia of Palmyra, Brandon Shortridge and wife Mackenzie of Stoutsville; and one granddaughter, Ashley Means and husband Brandon of Hannibal. She is also survived by four great-grandsons, Ayden Shortridge of Stoutsville, Evan Shortridge of Stoutsville, Jesse Dexter of Monroe City, Carson Dexter of Monroe City; four great-granddaughters, Kelsey Dexter of Appleton City, Kylie Begley of Palmyra, Haylie Begley of Palmyra, Sophia Dexter of Monroe City. One great-great grandson Parker Shortridge, Stoutsville, Missouri. She is also survived by three brothers, Bill Armstrong and wife Jeanie of Ava, Jim Armstrong and wife Janet of Silvis, Gary Armstrong and wife Naomi of Thompson; six sisters, Jeanie Hilbert and husband Wayne of Stoutsville, Judy Cochran of Hallsville, Jo Manning of Mertztown, Pa., Cheryll Gamble and husband Orville of Shelbina, Nelsie Taft of Monroe City, Glenna Lyons of Buckner; and numerous nieces and nephews. Urma Sue was preceded in death by Vernon Ragar; her parents, Fred Armstrong and Adalene Armstrong England; her stepfather Raymond England; brothers-in-law, Bud Cochran, Bill Lyons, Martin Manning; nephews, Dennis Hilbert and Ray Parrish Jr. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, Nov. 27, 2017, at the Garner Funeral Chapel. The Rev. Steve Goughnour will officiate. Burial will be at the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Hunnewell. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until the time of the service Monday, at the chapel. Pallbearers will be Jason Dexter, Keith Shortridge, Wesley Begley, Christopher Dexter, Chance Begley and Brandon Shortridge. Honorary pallbearers : Ashley Means, Kelsey Dexter, Ayden Shortridge, Kylie Begley, Haylie Begley, Sophia Dexter, Evan Shortridge, Jesse Dexter, Parker Shortridge and Carson Dexter.
