Alice E. Hall, a daughter of Alfred Perry Hall (1862-1918) and Susie Agnes Bent (1868-1933), was born July 16th, 1888 in Somerville, Middlesex Co., Massachusetts. She had a younger sister, Charlotte, b.Jun 1887, also born in Massachusetts, who were attending school in Chicago, Cook Co., Illinois when the 1900 US Census as taken on June 7, 1900. Her father was a Photographer who stated he was a Commercial Photographer in the 1910 Census. By that year, her sister was no longer in the home where Alice lived with her parents. Her father died on January 16th, 1918 and was laid to rest at Mount Greenwood Cemetery in Chicago, Illinois. Alice had been dating George G. Baker (b.1879, Kentucky), a Veteran of the Spanish-American War. They married September 20th, 1919, and moved into a rental in Chicago, along with Alice's mother, now a widow of 51 yrs. George had his own business which is listed in the 1920 Census as an "Addressor". [I researched this and it was a machine that was invented and patented in 1896; it printed up address labels and also printed addresses on envelopes. Prior to this, all work had been handwritten.] Living adjacent to Alice and George were his mother, Nannie Baker, also a widow (since 1906), who lived with George's sister, Ruth, her husband Jack Knapp, and their children, Laraine and Dorothy Knapp. Jack was a machinist in a factory and the daughters attended school. It seems that Alice was destined to become an early widow like both her mother and mother-in-law, for her husband, George, died on February 3rd, 1923, 6 days after his 44th birthday. His occupation is listed as "advertising"in the Illinois Cook County Deaths, 1878-1994 database. Alice found work as a Cashier at a grocery store and she and her mother shared a rental on Princeton Ave., Chicago, paying $70 rent. They had a radio set and rented a room to a lodger. Alice's mother passed away on May 9th, 1933 and was interred at Mount Greenwood Cemetery on May 11th, 1933.
Alice obtained her Social Security card in Nov 1938. She died in early 1943 and was buried at Mount Greenwood Cemetery on February 2nd, 1943 in an unmarked grave. May she Rest at Peace forever with her Loved Ones.
