John Hancock b. Mar. 1671, s. of Dea. Nathaniel and Mary (Prentice) Hancock; Harvard College 1689, A.B., A.M.; minister at Lexington 1689 - 1732; called Bishop; m. Elizabeth Clark, dau. of Rev. Thomas (1652 - 1704; H.C 1670) and Mary Clark of Chelmsford.

His son Thomas (1703 - 1774) was a merchant in Boston; built the house for his father now the Hancock-Clark house; This Rev. John had a son, Rev. John of Braintree (1702 - 1744, H.C. 1719) who had a son John who was the first signer of the Declaration of Independence.
