Franklin J. Morton, widely known in shipping circles and director of the Crown Cork and Seal Company, died yesterday at his home, 1703 Park avenue. Death was caused by a relapse that followed a recent attack of influenza.

Mr. Morton was born in Hallowell, Maine, February 11, 1833 and was in his eighty-sixth year. When a youth he accompanied his parents, Alfred Bennett and Nancy Joy Morton to this city. In 1851 he became associated with his father and brother, Dudley T. Morton, in a South American shipping firm which owned a fleet of vessels plying between Baltimore and the La Platte river.

Several years later he became connected at its formation with the Crown Cork and Seal Company, in which he was treasurer and director until 11-06, when he retired and devoted his time largely to philanthropic interests.

Soon after his arrival in this city he became associated with the Second Presbyterian Church. Early in the '80s he assisted in founding Boundary Avenue Presbyterian Church, now known as Northminster Presbyterian Church, of which he was an elder and trustee until his death. ...
